MTI Week Long Qualification Course
Michael Errington

I am an experienced player - less experienced coach. I love teaching and helping people to become passionate about tennis. I love the Modern Tennis philosopy. The methodology is fab as it is simplistic and flexible as it allows for adaption and new interpretations. It's fun and above all - easy to learn for beginners, intermediates and advanced players. There isn't anything to improve on this course. Andy was great and the course syllabus was spot on. Not too complex but enough to be going on with. I will certainly be "spreading the word" in the South West and will be happy to help in any way I can. Many thanks for all your hard work! See a videoed testimonial from Michael on YouTube.com where he tells us he still got loads out of the course, even though he had played for years, for instance he has learned how to hit a single backhand for the first time.

I am a student at MMU doing a (BA) coaching and sport development. Modern Tennis is the new way forward. A simplified and ideal way to coach tennis, whether beginners or advanced player. I can't wait to put this methodology into more practice! See a videoed testimonial from Periklies on YouTube.com where he tells us here how he loved how he taught how to coach while Andy was teaching novice player Roland how to play within the same group. He said it made his life easier and reaffirmed the value of the Modern Tennis methodology.

New Modern Tennis Fast Track Training
Modern Tennis International have developed a course for the David Lloyd Clubs called Fast Track. Its is based upon our Module 1 course and is used to help new members or new tennis starters get fully engaged into the club straight away. Below is what the coaches who have to deliver the course think of the system.
But first is a testimonial from World renown coach Joe Dinoffer...
Joe Dinoffer has had an extensive "world class" career in the tennis industry, and has conducted clinics and exhibitions in over 50 countries, personally logging over 30,000 hours of instruction in English, Spanish, and German. He is a Master Professional in both the PTR and USPTA, a distinction awarded to only a handful in the tennis industry. Joe also received the prestigious 2006 USPTA Tennis Industry Excellence Award.
Joe is the author and editor of 16 books and more than 45 DVDs. He writes regularly for Tennis, Smash, Tennis Life, and Racquet Sports Industry magazines, and also has numerous shows and tips airing on the Tennis Channel.

Joe Dinoffer, USPTA, USPTR MASTER Professional

"Just carefully read your Fast Track System overview. We don't know each other, but I am very particular and have found most "systems" miss the boat in at least some areas. This overview is the single best concise statement of coaching and instructional philosophy I have read in 30 years. I don't say that lightly." |
And here's what the David Lloyd Professional Coaches thought...

Nick Walden's feedback to a Coach 30/03/09
Nick Walden
A top Head Professional in the David Lloyd Group, who is working with us to roll out Modern Tennis to all Davld Lloyd Clubs this year
|
"Modern Tennis is a different and distinct approach to teaching tennis. A very quick and simple way for beginners to learn basic shots as they are played today by pro players. From the start students learn to hit with spin. They quickly get to develop feeling, rhythm and timing which leads to control. Pupils achieve success quickly which in turn leads to confidence and fun. The MTI courses are divided in to 6 modules. Each module following on from the other and covering all aspects of the game - stroke production, increased power, tactics and mental and physcological aspects of tennis. As a student of the game and career coach I would recommend to any coach or player who is interested in tennis, teaching others to play or improving their own game to attend an MTI session. You will find it professionally delivered by John and Andy, pick up lots of valuable teaching ideas and be inspired."

Full of eye opening ideas and mind stimulating teaching methods. It also provides a great opportunity for participants to share ideas and experiences. Graeme Rawlings, LTA DCA, PTR Coach, Walthamstow |
Modern Tennis is excellent. It fits with martial arts techniques. Excellent teaching by Andy and well supported by John. I have the highest regard for this approach to developing tennis players. It is simple for coaches to adopt and has a clear progression for the learner. The concepts ensure that the techniques are minimised to the most efficient way of playing the ball. It has a high link to the way you teach technique in many of the martial arts. I hope the course continues to gather momentum and future success.

Module 2 COURSE
|
|
|
Jaime Cotton - PTR Pro of the Year 2007 “For me, it’s the simplicity of teaching and the results you get in such a short space of time. The best way to sum Modern Tennis up is simplicity and unbelievable results. It’s just cleared up for me, things that I’d never understood – about timing issues and things like that. Simplicity is the key. Keep it simple.“ |
|
John Bozas - LTA Coach of the Year 2004 “I’m on your course again and the more we do your philosophy, the easier it is to teach players whether they are beginners or advanced players. The more I realise that as a coach you have to know a lot but you’ve got to impart a little bit so you don’t confuse the player. And get them to do what you want them to do without telling them how to do it. That to me is what I’ve learned from this. “ |
|
Nicholas Georgallides - who flew over from Cyprus especially to attend this Modern Tennis Module 2 course, having enjoyed Module 1 so much last year!! “Modern Tennis Module 2 was very exciting for me. I’ve been playing tennis for 40 years and even today here at Module 2 I have learned a couple of new things which I’m sure will help me improve my game even further not to mention the simplicity of passing on this information to younger tennis enthusiasts. “ |
|
Suzanne Goodfellow “You have made things very simple for me. I feel very motivated and enthusiastic. So far I’ve had great results from Module 1 and I hope with Module 2 I can take it even further. I’ve really enjoyed it. It’s made tennis very simple and much easier to teach. Thank you.” |

Feedback regarding Oscar |
“Oscar is a great coach. In a few days he helped me regain my strokes and my feel for the ball." Bjorn Borg, 5 time Wimbledon Champion, 6 time French Open Champion, and former world Number One. |
“Oscar, it is an honour to meet you … Your techniques made so much sense I had my girls watch them (the videos) every day … Thank you so much for what you have done for tennis” Richard Williams, Father of Venus and Serena Williams on first meeting Oscar. |
“Oscar has broken the mould in understanding the modern tennis stroke. In working with him and watching super slow-motion sequences of the top pros, I have seen the genius of Oscar's analysis of their dynamics and technique. He has translated that into effective teaching methodology that is easy and fun to learn from." Andy Rosenberg, Director for NBC Sports Wimbledon and French Open |
| Feedback regarding the Modern Tennis methods |
“Oscar: We have not met, but I have long acknowledged that your teaching methods are light years ahead of those for most teaching professionals in our industry. I also happen to believe that our industry has complicated the learning process for so many players that they become discouraged and leave our sport too quickly. Your ideas simplify matters, and this is crucial." Bill Mountford, LTA Head of Coach Relations and Competitions (former Director of Tennis, USTA National Tennis Center, Flushing Meadows, New York, July, 2005 |
“Oscar Wegner techniques speak true of what modern tennis is all about. We as tennis coaches didn’t see the forest through the trees. For too long we kept clinging to old, trite ideas that kill hand-eye coordination, not realizing that tennis is a very natural and simple game, and that people are far more able to play well than ever thought possible.” John Carpenter, Tennis Pro, Dwight Davis Tennis Center (August 2005). |
“Oscar is a genius! His techniques and approach makes teaching tennis so simple and produces amazing results. The quality of our junior program has improved tremendously (from day one) since I started implementing the Wegner Method" Susan Nardi, USPTA/USPTR, Riviera Tennis Club, Southern California (August, 2005). |
“Wegner strips instruction of all those accepted phrases and directions that only clutter your mind and confuse.....I think you'll find it worthwhile to dump the past and join Oscar in your tennis future. In listening to him I've unlearned a few things myself that I long considered gospel....." Bud Collins, Boston Globe, NBC |
“I never understood how Spain could all of a sudden become a world power in tennis. After I have seen your work, now I understand it". Jana Hunsacker, former Director of Tennis, U.S.T.A. National Tennis Center, Flushing Meadows, N.Y |
“It only took one presentation from Oscar Wegner ... to understand that there was a better way to teach and play tennis. I should not even say better... this should be, and always should have been, the ONLY method!" Mark Guilbeau 2005 NCAA National Coach of the Year/Head Coach Women's Tennis University of Virginia |
“Oscar's techniques are incredible. Back in 1982 he was coaching with me in Germany and the students called him 'the American who taught tennis in two hours.' Over and over, he had total beginners rallying 40, 60 balls back and forth in just two hours of instruction. He also helped the Weiden Tennis Club enjoy an undefeated junior tennis team that year and send our main team to the Bundesliga." Jurgen Fassbender, former #1 player in Germany and top-ten ranking player in the World |
“A lot has been written about the modern forehand with its natural movements, open stance, windshield-wiper swing, and most importantly, tracking the ball and waiting before taking the racquet back. Much of this has been pioneered by Oscar Wegner, who has been teaching this method since 1968. Back then, this was very controversial, however, history has proved him right. “ TennisOne.com, May 2006 issue. |
“Your method of simplifying the strokes and teaching beginners to "play like the pros" has benefitted hundreds of New York City school children and the teachers that train them. It's remarkable to see children rallying (hitting) back and forth 20-70 times within an hour and I love hearing from them that "tennis is easy." Sheri Slobin, Deputy Director of Programs, NY Jr. tennis League |
“When my children were very young and just starting to play tennis, Oscar gave them drills that were fun to do. He generated an interest and eagerness for the game so that they wanted to play more, and as a result, they became motivated to play better." Vincent Spadea Sr, father of former #4 American and 19th ranked in the world. |
John Bozas - LTA CCA 2002 - LTA COACH of the YEAR 2004 - COACH TO PETER NORFOLK GOLD MEDALLIST 2004 “I have found some of Oscar’s methods to be very effective yet very simple in teaching beginners especially. The starting grip with the forefinger in the throat of the racket and the butt of the racket in the belly button at ready position takes care of the grip and gets the racket head going back correctly for the backswing, and then finding contact point and brushing up and finishing with the back of the hitting hand touching the opposite ear completes the stroke very effectively. Volleying onto a fixed angled board has improved our performance players' volleys no end!" |
