Meet The Modern Tennis International Team

The Modern Tennis International Team is high in energy, enthusiasm and passion for Modern Tennis. Having seen Oscar’s revolutionary methods produce champions worldwide they then tested the techniques on both themselves and their pupils. The results were staggering as their pupils improved immensely plus Andrew and John had never before felt such a sense of freedom from playing. Subsequently, Modern Tennis International was formed in an attempt to share the inspiration!” .

John Littleford and Andrew Magrath founded the company and are supported by Helen Littleford and the business team, plus the great man himself – Oscar Wegner.

John and Andrew were interviewed by ITV and BBC1 in December '07 and January '08, regarding the success 4 year old Mika Stojanovic had enjoyed since being coached using Modern Tennis methods by Andrew.

John Littleford

Co-founder and joint Managing Director of Modern Tennis International. He is MTI Level 5 qualified – personally tutored by Oscar. He is also an LTA and PTR Professional qualified Coach.

John has enjoyed success as a player- representing the UK, Hertfordshire and Middlesex counties in both junior and senior categories. He has coached for too many years to mention! He has transformed large tennis clubs into thriving and popular clubs and has also worked in tennis management. Many of his clients have gone on to be excellent players with some ranked in the top 20 in the country and even have become coaches themselves.

In 2006, while seeking new inspiration for coaching, John discovered Oscar Wegner and his unique and exceptionally brilliant Modern Tennis methodology. Since then he has transformed not only his own game but also his own style of teaching tennis. He has forged strong links with Oscar himself and has now set up this Modern Tennis business. A client recently described his lesson in Modern Tennis methods as “turning water into wine!”

John says “Like all good Tennis Coaches, I am always searching for new ideas and systems for teaching. I knew there was a better way, from constantly seeing player after player emerge from all other nations. I discovered that Oscar Wegner had a system that works and is so simple to teach and learn – and is being used by most of the top players in the World today. This is now the way that the MTI teaches – both Tennis Coaches and players. This is the best way to teach a fluid and natural game and the results are fantastic! Andrew Magrath

Co-founder and joint Managing Director of Modern Tennis International. He is MTI Level 5 qualified – personally tutored by Oscar; he is also an LTA CCA and PTR qualified Coach.

As a junior player, Andrew trained at Thorpe Bay LTC in Essex and also trained at Nottingham Tennis Centre. He has won several local singles and doubles titles. Andrew has been coaching since 1993 and has coached all levels of players including juniors who were ranked top 15 in the UK. He has since mentored many players to become full time professional coaches.

Andrew was also a county swimmer and is training as a 1st dan in Shotokan Karate. As a result of these other sporting backgrounds, Andrew can relate to the logic in Oscar’s simple methodology.

Most recently Andrew has coached 4 year old Mika Stojanovic who improved so dramatically in just 3 months using the Modern Tennis methods, that she attracted many media interests. Several articles in the National and International press were published, and radio and TV interviews were televised with Mika, Andrew and John – on the BBC, ITV, Sky and Setanta News. He also coaches Charisma Nuqui, another very promising junior who has improved phenomenally using these methods.

Andrew says “The techniques in their purest form are both logical and easy to follow for both coach and pupil. They expose many myths about the game that have confused players. I have taught Oscar’s method for a while now and you can see the satisfaction on the players faces regardless of standard. The MTI courses are for those coaches who want to utilise a quick, simple and natural way of coaching tennis and therefore encourage participation. I believe the best coaches are the people who know they don’t know everything and are open minded. Advancement is simplification, not complication.”

Helen Littleford – is Modern Tennis International’s Commercial Director and is the glue of the business. Helen’s career in Project Management, Sales, Marketing and Customer Relationship Management makes her ideally qualified to coordinate the business team in an organised and professional fashion.

Helen, who is married to John, is a fervent supporter of Modern Tennis methodology and says “I have seen the benefits for myself in my own game and that of John and our young son William's. I am thrilled to be a part of this exciting business and know I will continue to see the benefits players and coaches enjoy.”
